The Pennyfoot hides many secrets and its downstairs staff keeps a tight lip, even when the Edwardian aristocrats are spotted dallying with damsels in the boudoirs, or gambling in the forbidden card rooms hidden below the floorboards. Should now and then one of the hotel guests fall prey to a dastardly murderer, however, it is up to Cecily Sinclair to restore order before Scotland Yard steps in and shuts down her infamous seaside hotel.

RING FOR TOMB SERVICE

The villagers of Badgers End look forward to St. Bartholomew’s week with great anticipation. The celebration of the church’s foundation is filled with festivities, culminating in a grand feast for which people travel from afar to enjoy. This year’s event, however, threatens to be cancelled when the body of the church’s bell ringer is found on the rocks in Devil’s Cauldron. Now it’s up to Cecily to solve the murder and save the treasured festival.

The twenty-first Pennyfoot book, MULLED MURDER, one of Kingsbury’s beloved Christmas editions, was just published in November 2013 by Berkley Books.

Ring for Tomb Service Pennyfoot Hotel Mystery Book 9 edition by Kate Kingsbury Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks

This is the 9th entry in the Pennyfoot Hotel mystery series - and the murder mystery didn't count for squat in this book! The whole "mystery" is what is going to happen between Cecily and Baxter.

It's been three months since Baxter suddenly left the Pennyfoot, with only a vague promise that he would explain at a later date. Not one single word has Cecily heard from him in that time and then, without notice, he walks up behind her on the roof garden. From that point on you simply do not want to put the book down.

The book is expertly written with dialog of the time period. The author's ability to express anger, fear, distress, supposition and love within that dialog and internal monologues is phenomenal. And the author's way of creating reader frustration with the characters is pretty good, too. By the time you've gotten a third of the way through this book, you just want to shake both Baxter and Cecily and tell them to quit pussy-footing around and "communicate already."

This series comes under the "cozy mystery" genre but is really a serial drama. The books must truly be read in published order to get the most benefit and understanding of the time line and "family" dynamics involved. They are a great way to lighten the heart and, for the avid reader, can be the well-placed break needed between heavier and/or nastier mysteries and thrillers.

Ring for Tomb Service Pennyfoot Hotel Mystery Book 9 edition by Kate Kingsbury Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews

Good mystery period pieces with reoccurring carictors.
I love all of Kate Kingsbury's books, one of my favorite authors, would love to get all of her books. At there any packages of her books?
The first few books were great all the loose ends were tied up as any good mystery should be but as the series continues story lines are dropped or not even mentioned though they were brought up in the last book. I'm talking about the Hotel owners son marrying an African woman & bringing her to their small Village. This would have added a great deal to the plot had the author not glossed over it.
Another complaint I had was the owners friend Phoebe is quite moral she hears the Gardner has been killed swoons in Lord Fortesques company & this good gentle man who is never without his flask of Gin gives her a huge drink spilling a great deal down her front.Phoebe upon arising from her faint & slightly slurring her words asks for another taste of his medicine & then proceeds to get very drunk. But did the author work this great plot line into the main story NO! At the end of the book she has Phoebe slink off home with no one the wiser what a loss! I won't read anymore of the books as this one especially just stops. The author has the Hotel owner & former book keeper deciding to make a the grand announcement of the book keepers buying part ownership of the hotel & expecting to read this & experience the staffs reaction she just ended the book flat.

What is happening here is the author has several series she has started after she started writing this one & these books show she doesn't have the time to write multiple books without hurting her first series. A terrible disservice to us the readers.
Another hit! A wonderful series. I can hardly wait for next one! So happy with this book. Love Baxter and want everything good. The staff at Pennyfoot help make these books a must-read. Thank you for wonderful reading!
I liked this latest storyvery much. I enjoy all the Pennyfoot mysteries, they're light but always a murder or two to solve. Baxter is back and we'llsee how the relationship between him and Cecily develops. So, I would again recommend this Pennyfoot and the only part in this one was I thought there was too much chit chatwiththe maids in the kitchen, but it's one to read.
It's not Agatha Christie, but it's wonderful for when you want to sit down and just have a really good read without slogging through a dumpster of details. Funny, airy, yet still draws you in with the plot. Lovely descriptions of the Edwardian era, and the author does a great job of putting you right *there* with her amateur sleuth as she solves yet another unfortunate murder while still keeping the Pennyfoot Hotel running like clockwork.
Delightful! And for once, Samuel did not find the body! A hotel full of female cyclists, a priceless chalice at the church, Phoebe and her bevy of bumbling village girls mixed with two growing toddlers in the kitchen make for some humorous but tense moments. This book not only marks another win for Cecily in crime solving but a positive change in her relationship with Baxter.
